5 Easy Ways to Get Kids Excited for Back to School

Summer will be over before we know it, and that dreaded yet beloved “back to school” season will arrive sooner than we think. With how hot the temperatures are, it feels like ages ago since the schoolbells rang. While we’re busy making summer memories, whether playing at the beach, fishing at the lake, traveling abroad, or relaxing on a staycation, it’s never too early to start thinking about school.
Maybe your kids are (or will be) elated to go back to school, and maybe your kids feel anxious about an unfamiliar school environment. Either way, here are 5 simple ways to help kids feel eager heading back to school.
1. Make the Unknown Known
If your kid is transitioning to a new school environment, ask them what they know or don’t know about their school.

2. Create a Schedule for the Night Before and Morning Of
Changing from a summer bedtime and morning routine to a school night and morning can be tough for kids. To help get your kids off to bed and out the door in the morning consistently, create a schedule with them mapping out what will happen each night and day. You can get them involved by drawing symbols that represent each step while you write.

3. Choose a Cute Outfit the Night Before
Kids feel more confident to get their day started if the outfit they’re wearing makes them feel more confident and comfortable. Lay out their outfits the night before to prevent any outfit debates when you need to quickly get them to school. At Mila & Rose, we have many outfits that your kid will be enthusiastic to wear.
Fuel the excitement with a dress, tee, skort, or skeggings from our Back to School collection!
And don’t forget, you’re never fully dressed without a smile! :)

4. Play Some Danceable Tunes
If your child has trouble getting up in the morning, play their favorite music to dance to when waking them up. Music can help decrease stress and ease anxiety. Plus, it improves your overall mood! Ask your kids what songs make them the most happy and create a morning playlist together.
Check out our dresses, such as the Top of the Class Tank Tutu Dress, which are perfect for twirling through the morning!
5. Hold a First Day of School Photoshoot
Hype them up on the first day of school by taking cute photos in their back to school outfit! It does not have to be fancy; it can just be them with their backpack by your front door. What’s important is that it will help improve their self-esteem, self-empowerment, and instill confidence in them to take on the school day.
Also, show off your school pride the Mila & Rose way by repping your school colors, or donning our licensed apparel, such as our local Southlake Carroll Dragons collection!
